Role Overview:

The Manager of the Machine Shop is crucial in overseeing all operations, ensuring manufacturing processes run efficiently, safely, and adhere to production schedules and quality standards.

Responsibilities:

 
  • Supervise daily machine shop operations, ensuring adherence to production schedules, quality standards, and safety protocols.
  • Oversee the operation and programming of CNC and VMC machines; ensure optimal performance and address technical issues as they arise.
  • Monitor and enhance Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by implementing best practices and resolving production bottlenecks.
  • Implement and maintain quality control processes, conduct regular inspections, and ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.
  • Develop and design jigs, fixtures, and tooling to enhance machining efficiency and accuracy; oversee their implementation and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the design team on drawings and design changes, ensure updated BOMs in production, and provide a gap analysis
  • Approve requisitions for BOM and non-BOM items, and ensure timely availability of raw materials by coordinating with the SCM team
  • Oversee the management of multiple products and setup changes, including new product development and adjustments to machining processes.
  • Utilize ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and other manufacturing software to track production, manage resources, and generate reports.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, apply Lean Manufacturing principles, and implement process enhancements to boost efficiency.
  • Manage manpower availability for each shift and raise requisitions for additional contract manpower to HRBP if required.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations; conduct regular safety audits, implement safety training programs, and foster a culture of safety in the workplace.

Key Skills, Qualifications, and Required Years of Experience

  • B. Tech / Diploma in Tool & Die Making
  • 7 to 8 Years (If diploma, then shall have 10+ years of experience)
  • Proficient in operating and programming CNC and VMC machines.
  • Experience understanding and enhancing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) from previous roles.
  • Familiarity with advanced machining technologies, including multi-axis machining and high-speed machining.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage, analyze, and interpret data effectively.
  • Knowledge of tooling selection, tool life management, and fixture design to optimize machining operations.
  • Proven ability to handle diverse product lines, including new product development and managing multiple machine setup changes.
  • Experienced in utilizing SAP for production management and operational efficiency.
